Owl In The Forest

Owl In The Forest

The Barred Owl (Strix varia) is a large, round-headed owl native to North America. It is easily recognizable by its distinctive pattern of horizontal barring across the chest and vertical streaks on the belly. This owl has dark brown eyes, unlike the yellow eyes typical of most owls. Barred Owls inhabit mature forests, often near water, where they hunt for small mammals, birds, and amphibians. Known for their classic “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?” call, these owls are more often heard than seen, especially during dusk and nighttime.
